Jeffrey Alan Love – many skills, many projects

Flesk's Kickstarter campaign for Jeffrey's new book has reached its' goal nearly three times over. The Last Battle at the End of the World is his third graphic novel, and Flesk have some good deals on the earlier books too.

And at the same time Jeffrey has illustrated a comic written by Chris Condon, News from the Fall Out, which you can read about here, or on Jeff's newsletter. I recommend ordering it from your local comic shop. How does he do it all?

King School at the Bologna Book Fair

It's been a big month for Alexis Deacon too. Otter-Barry Books will be taking his new picture book to Bologna where I think it will turn a few heads – especially if people are starting to wonder if the world might be better run by five-year-olds.

The Book Thief, published by The Folio Society

Also in March, this very moving book by Markus Zusak and illustrated by Alexis is published in its' core edition. The limited edition sold out in a few minutes so I'm pleased to see that it's now available in an only slightly less gorgeous edition.

Beegu at The Unicorn Theatre

And finally, the adaptation of his much-loved children's book, Beegu, has opened at the Unicorn Theatre in London. First published in the UK in 2003, the book has now appeared in countless different countries and languages. You can read this story of a stranded alien girl in a baffling world as quite relevant to today, or simply enjoy the warmth of the children who make her welcome. Alexis is delighted with the stage adaptation so many thanks to the team, and my guess is that it wilI travel to other venues.

Who's next for Harry Potter?

Bloomsbury can now tell us that Levi Pinfold will take over from where Jim Kay left off, after Book 5. The sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, illustrated by Levi, will be published in October 2026 and Jim is hugely relieved. Here's Levi's Harry, in Dumbledore's office.
Jim says: 'To all those who have collected the series so far, and have waited such a long time for the final books, I just wanted to say sorry for the delay, but it will definitely be worth the wait! I can't tell you how hard it's been since stepping back, I'm really grateful to Bloomsbury for getting me even to Book 5, and to Neil Packer for his wonderful work too.'

Art of the Book – and Voltaire

For something completely different, I can recommend the latest addition to John Huddy's 'Art of the Book' which is a splendid collection of work by Angela Barrett, for the illustrated Candide.

In other news

Neil Packer's new book which could be described as a follow-up to his award-winning One of a Kind will also be shown at Bologna next week. We can't tell you very much, but it's even more extraordinary, with an insane amount of detail, and these birds are just one element.
And while Olivia Lomenech Gill is now SHORTlisted for the Carnegie Medal for her Clever Crow,– and Jim Kay is spending his spare time making birds out of maps, it feels as if it's all about the birds. Perhaps spring is on the way at last.
