Christie's auction of Science Fiction and Fantasy

Both John Harris and Jim Burns have work in the forthcoming Christie's science fiction auction in London. All the work will be exhibited at Christie's in London from 7th to 12th December and bidding closes at 3.00 pm GMT on 12th December.

You may remember the beautifully-detailed pencil drawings Jim produced for the handsome Suntup edition of 1984. Jim has now decided that he can part with the 17 drawings. Here are two examples.

Included in this lot there will also be a set of the 17 drawings, digitally coloured by Jim, and produced as a limited edition of giclee prints. Also a copy of the limited edition book.
He still has one or two sets available for sale so let me know if you're interested, or contact Jim directly.

John Harris

In John's case most of the work is being resold by the family of Sir Clive Sinclair who died a couple of years ago. It's a great opportunity to buy John's work given that there is so little left to sell.
There are two book cover paintings by John: Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead. These are also a resale as he sold the originals many years ago but it's great to see them included in the show.

Rick Berry

One of the highlights of the sale is the art for the very first digital paperback cover ever – which, of course, was Neuromancer. Not only was this image much loved by William Gibson and seen on covers throughout the world but it started a revolution in book cover art.
Too spooky to only rely on a digital file, Rick was obliged to also produce a physical piece of art, and this will be sold alongside his original sketch for the idea.
Not included in the sale but yet to come, is his painting for the cover of Godmakers.

Ian Miller talks to Barry Jackson

And for something altogether more festive and relaxing, why not watch this conversation between Ian and his old friend Barry Jackson?
That might make you want to work on one of these over the Christmas break.

By complete contrast, it's always good to notice artists who are just emerging from college. Caitlin Turner  has graduated from the illustration course at Falmouth, one of the best in the land, with an appetite to join this baffling and unpredictable world of illustration. Here are some sketchbook drawings.
She has already been commissioned to illustrate a whole book and she's selling prints from her website.
Very best wishes to her as she sets out with youthful vigour. Perhaps one to watch.
