Beegu
Beegu is one of the most adored picture book stories of the past twenty years. First published in 2003, it continues to go from strength to strength, and Alexis regularly receives letters from children who have been moved by the story and would like to give Beegu a home.
It has a wonderful central character and a heart-warming story which has led to its adoption by the CLPE for their 'Power of Reading' recommendations for primary school children. As they say, 'it deals with themes of hope, kindness, loneliness and being an outsider'. You can read more about that here: CLPE Power of Reading
We're excited to confirm that it's also going to be adapted by Debbie Hannan for a stage dramatisation in 2025, at the Unicorn Theatre in London. Unicorn Theatre production
You can see Alexis reading the story , and showing you how to draw Beegu himself.
From Publishers Weekly:
'The accomplished artwork underscores the children's easy acceptance of Beegu and highlights the book's uplifting message that acts of kindness have lasting effects.'
